A Statement on Tariffs and Art

At Square Foot Show, we believe in art’s power to connect people. We welcome artists and collectors from Canada, the U.S., and beyond.

However, recent trade tensions between Canada and the U.S. affect artists and collectors. On March 4, 2025, the U.S. announced a 25% tariff on many Canadian imports. Canada matched this with a 25% tariff, including original U.S artworks.

As of March 6, original Canadian artwork sent to the U.S. is temporarily tariff-free. This applies if it meets USMCA origin rules and the right documentation. Let’s be honest: this situation could change at any time.

To help collectors make informed choices, every painting will now clearly state its country of origin. We will also assist artists in understanding the documentation needed for smooth cross-border shipping.

Supporting artists should remain simple, exciting, and clear, regardless of border issues. Let’s keep art friendly, fast, and fun — even when politics isn’t.
